Room 23's Trip to Kelly Tarlton's Aquarium

Room 23 have been looking at Antarctica and how animals survive in such a cold place. We went on a trip to Kelly Tarlton's to learn more about the history of Antarctica and the harsh habitat in which Antarctic animals must survive. We got to feel some penguin feathers, and hold replicas of the eggs of gentoo and king penguins, and then we explored the aquarium. We were just in time to see the penguins being fed! The penguins came right up to the glass so we could see them up close. We noticed that the gentoo penguins were busy sitting on their eggs to keep them warm, and the king penguins had started to moult so they looked very itchy and uncomfortable! It was a great trip and we are all so excited to learn more!

Teachers asked questions like: How many children are here? How many tacos each? Will that be equal?   Baskets of objects and containers with 2, 3, or 4 divisions inspired a shop run by Zoey, Olive, Ting Ting, and Isobel. Teachers saw the opportunity to extend children's knowledge of numbers and record children's findings.  The dolls had a ...
